The IDA project 20 years later
The study on attitudes to food, eating and health among adolescent girls "The Swedish longitudinal cohort study of Investigation of Dieting behaviors in Adolescent girls"; colloquially referred to as the IDA project, started in 1995 with 1279 girls and their parents.
To our knowledge, no other current Swedish population-based study has such a long follow-up period as 20 years. A total of four doctoral theses have been produced in the project so far, along with several scientific articles. The previous results have had an impact on how support and care for people with food and eating-related illness have been designed and developed over time. Thus, over the past decade, many studies have been conducted to increase our understanding of the risk factors that may predispose an individual to develop eating-related illness.
However, there is currently a lack of knowledge about, among other things, the extent to which people who have had or have such an illness can complete an education and to what extent they function in working life. The purpose of our 20-year follow-up is to continue studying protective factors and risk factors for the development of eating-related illness in relation to current life situation, self-esteem, employment, job satisfaction and work ability.
On October 1, 2015, we closed the opportunity to respond to the survey and by that time 65% of respondents had participated. After this closure, we will start processing the collected data to produce results. Data processing will take place in stages over a long period of time. As results are finalized and ready for publication, notices will be published on this website. Below you can find the main results from previous data collections.
Duration of the project 2015-2020.
