Therapeutic hypothermia after cardiac arrest
- patients' quality of life and functioning linked to signs of brain damage and the experiences of relatives
The overall aim was to follow all patients during the first six months after cardiac arrest with hypothermia treatment to study quality of life, physical and mental function, neurological status and mortality related to initial levels of brain injury markers, MRI findings and brain oxygen consumption. The aim was also to compare quality of life and function over time. Another aim was to describe how family members experience the time after the cardiac arrest and how the event has affected their daily lives.
The data collection, involving three centers, was completed for two centers in spring 2011 and the third center in May 2012.
The project has so far resulted in 5 published scientific articles, 12 scientific abstracts presented at international and national conferences and 2 more scientific articles are in preparation.
Duration: 2008-2015.
