National Research Program: Planning for Walking.
It is a national knowledge program for research and education regarding walking. The program is managed by Luleå University of Technology together with a steering group that includes: University of Gävle, Lund University of Technology, Chalmers, The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences, VTI, and RISE. The program aims to actively promote efforts to increase and make walking traffic safer and more attractive by coordinating joint applications both within the framework of the program and in a broader context, promoting interdisciplinary research, new collaborations and knowledge exchanges, and contributing to the dissemination of knowledge about walking as a mode of travel across various platforms. Project period: 2025-2030. Funded by the Swedish Transport Administration.
Project: Gångbokslut
A project run by VTI within the framework of the national program for walking. Within the project, 1) different measures and indicators for increased and safe walking are mapped and evaluated with respect to their quality and application areas, and 2) knowledge gaps and methods to address these are identified. The aim is to create a framework for a Gångbokslut (a compilation of data for pedestrians) that can be used for the monitoring of walking at the national level. Involved parties include: VTI, HiG, LTU, LU, RISE, Chalmers, GIH, and the Swedish Transport Administration. Project period: 2025-11-17 to 2027-01-17. Funded by the Swedish Transport Administration.
