About the researcher
Kim Solin is an Associate Professor of Computer Science, and Head of Department at the University of Gävle. He leads the research group History and Philosophy of Computer Science and has previously led the project Rush Rhees and Wittgenstein's Philosophy of Mathematics External link., funded by the Swedish Research Council.
Kim teaches decision theory and the philosophy of computer science. He also writes regular essays in the Swedish and international press and is chair of the Swedish Arts Council's working group for non-fiction literature.
From 2019 to 2024, Kim Solin held various roles in management and administration, including as Head of Section in the Government Offices, Ministry of Education, as Senior Adviser to the Vice-Rector at the Office for Humanities and Social Sciences at Uppsala University, and as Senior Faculty Administrator at the Office for Technology and Natural Sciences at Uppsala University. Prior to that, he was a Senior Lecturer in computer science at Åbo Akademi University and a Research Fellow in computer science at The University of Queensland. He spent part of his doctoral studies at Universität Augsburg and Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in Germany. Kim Solin holds a PhD in computer science from Åbo Akademi University and a PhD in philosophy from Uppsala University. He is a Titular Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Helsinki, an Honorary Research Fellow in philosophy at The University of Queensland, and an affiliated researcher at the Department of Philosophy at Uppsala University.
