Supply chains: Analysis, management and collaboration

The programme focuses on an important aspect of industrial management: analyzing, leading, and managing supply chains. Supply Chain Management (SCM) involves overseeing all steps involved in purchasing, production, and transportation. A key part of SCM is collaborating with various partners in the chain, such as customers, suppliers, and other intermediaries.

Unique specialization

You will learn various aspects of SCM in accordance with the definition above, with elements of sustainability. What makes the programme unique in SCM is the specialization in analytical tools that can be used to analyze the supply chain. The analyses can then form the basis for making decisions regarding supply chains such as purchasing, configuration of production networks, and localization.

Play an important role in companies

Former students often work in the private sector, frequently holding leading positions in areas such as production planning, procurement, and management of suppliers and logistics. The education can also serve as a gateway for further research studies at the University of Gävle or other higher education institutions.

Good job market and increased demand for knowledge in supply chain

Generally, the job market looks good and most recent graduates have historically found jobs within industries that match their education. Skills in supply chain management has increasingly become more important for a company's competitiveness.

The programme and the Global Goals

The education provides you with up-to-date knowledge of various tools and methods society needs to create conditions for sustainable development in the long term. During the programme, you also learn to understand and develop solutions for several of the UN's 17 Global Sustainable Development Goals, with a particular focus on the following three goals:

8 Decent work and economic growth
Managing supply chains responsibly is crucial to ensure decent working conditions at suppliers, who are often in countries with lower regulatory requirements. At the same time, global supply chains drive economic growth both in Sweden and other countries.

9 Sustainable industry, innovation, and infrastructure
When global supply chains are managed responsibly, they can often drive the dissemination of "best practices" to various actors in other countries, making industries both more innovative and sustainable. This involves both establishing own production units and developing local supplier bases.

12 Sustainable consumption and production
The programme cover methods and techniques for designing and managing chains of actors from raw materials to consumers, which is fundamental to industrial production and consumption. Increasingly, sustainability aspects are factored into the design of these chains, partly due to direct demands from customers and consumers, but also because long-term business prospects depend on this.
