Application for Scolarship for African students

The scholarship covers the entire tuition fee as well as support for living expenses and a one-way trip to come to Gävle, for studies at Bachelor of Science in Social Work – Specialization International Social Work commencing August 2024.

Iyabo Theresa Ogionwo Memorial Foundation

This scholarship is initiated and funded by Iyabo Theresa Ogionwo Memorial Foundation. Iyabo Theresa Ogionwo was a student the Bachelor Programme in Social Work – Specialization International Social Work and graduated 2016.

Eligibility Criteria

You must:

  • be a citizen of a country in Africa.
  • show interest in the field of International Social Work, Development Studies, Eco-social Work and Green Social Work.
  • rank the programme, Bachelor of Science in Social Work – Specialization International Social Work, as first priority at
  • apply to the programme before the deadline 15 January.
  • pay the application fee and send supporting documents to in time.

  • No extra documents need to be sent. We will use the documentation you submit with your programme application on
  • Your application ID from must be noted on the scholarship application form. It consists of 8 digits.

Selection Criteria

  • Admission to the study programme
  • Grades from upper secondary education
  • Motivation Letter (Please find guidelines in the application below)
  • Interview by representatives from the university and the Iyabo Theresa Ogionwo Memorial Foundation.

Scholarship applicants receive the result from the University of Gävle
Date to be decided – Successful applicants will receive an email from the University of Gävle.
Date to be decided – Last day to sign the Conditions of Scholarship and accept the scholarship

Students who get nominated with at scholarship will be notified through email. Students that are granted a scholarship will receive a document stating "Conditions for University of Gävle Scholarship for African Students in International Social Work".

  1. A scholarship may only be granted by the University upon written application by an applicant or a student having been admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Social Work - Specialization International Social Work at the University of Gävle provided that the applicant or student is covered by the obligation to pay a study fee under the ordinance 2010:718.
  2. A Scholarship may only be granted for the duration of a programme.
  3. A Scholarship covers the entire study fee for the programme.
  4. Scholarships are granted for the first year of studies and thereafter, upon grated prolongation, for the following years covered by the programme.
  5. In order to prolong the scholarship for a second or third year, the student need to pass at least 75% of the credits in his/her previous semester.
  6. Where a student does not fulfill these requirements, the scholarship will be withdrawn and the student may be required to repay parts of the scholarship.
