Borrowing books

To be able to borrow printed books, you need to be a registered user and have a library card.

Borrowing books

The simplest way to find our books is via the library catalogue.

You can check out your books yourself in our Self-Issue machines.

Course books can be borrowed for 14 days and other books for 28 days.

All course books can be found on the ground floor. The other books can be found on the first floor (named floor 3) and in the basement (named floor 1).

The library has most course books in two copies, one for lending and a reference copy that is not lent out. At the start of the course, we check and supplement the stock of course literature based on current literature lists. If any copy disappears during the course, we do not buy new ones until the next course start.

All course books can be found in our library catalogue, regardless of whether they are printed or electronic. The electronic ones can be read online or downloaded for 1-3 days.
Printed course books are labelled on the back with KURS. All course books are collected on the entrance level. You can borrow them for 14 days and if you return them too late, you have to pay a fee of 10 SEK per day and book.

Literature other than course books can be borrowed for four weeks.

Material that you need for your studies or research and which isn't available in print or electronic form in our Library, can be requested as interlibrary loans.

By logging in to your library account with your library card number and PIN, you can re-borrow your books if they are not reserved by someone else.

If the book you are looking for is checked out, you can join the queue by reserving the book. Only books that are checked out can be reserved.

If you are neither employed at the University of Gävle nor a student at a college or university, you will be registered as an external user. As an external user, you can borrow printed books, but not course books. We do not provide interlibrary loans for you, but refer you to the nearest public library.

You can also search the library's databases using a guest account that you get when you visit us during our manned opening hours.

Late fees and reimbursement of books

Course books can be borrowed for 14 days and if you return them late you will have to pay a fee. If you owe more than 50 kr, it is not possible to make additional loans and book reservations.

Reimbursement for damaged or lost books

The reimbursement for a lost book is the purchase price of the book and a 100 kr administration fee. You can also get a new book yourself and return it to the library, in which case there is no charge. Books that cannot be purchased are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Payment alternatives

The late fee for course books is 10 kr per book and day, the maximum amount per return and book is 300 kr and 1200 kr per borrower.

If you come to the library during our manned opening hours, you pay the fee by card or Swish. If you can't come to us, you pay to Högskolan i Gävle's bank account number: 5050 - 5809. As a payment message, enter: 3146-9701-9101-95-99. Send an e-mail to biblioteket@hig.se with your name and a copy of the payment so that we can see that you have paid.

Returning books

During the Library’s opening hours, you can return your books in the Library’s self-issue machines, When the Library is closed, you can return your books in our book drop, which is located outdoors, outside the Library’s east entrance.

Please note that your books will not be removed from your account until staff has deregistered them, when the information desk opens again.
