Distance Learning Students
Here you can read more about borrowing books if you are a student enrolled in a distance learning course at University of Gävle, who live in Sweden but outside Gävle municipality. To read the Library’s e-books or electronically published articles, you only need to log in with your user account. You don’t need to have a library card for electronical sources.
Creating a library account
Distance learning students at the University of Gävle living outside Gävle municipality can register online. You can also have books sent to you by post within Sweden.
- Complete the registration form.
- Send an email to biblioteket@hig.se stating your name, that you have completed the registration form.
- We will send you a library card when everything is done.
Books can be sent to your home address
Printed books in our possession can be sent to you through the post, if you are enrolled in a distance learning course at University of Gävle but do not live in Gävle municipality. We only send books within Sweden.
Returning books
You are responsible for returning the books on time. Please observe that course books needs to have reached us no later than the due date to avoid overdue fees. Return postage will be at your own expense.

Update your contact details when you move
Please remember to update your contact details when you move, as we are not automatically informed of a change of address. You can change your contact details by logging into your library account.
Ordering books
First search for the book in the library catalogue.
If the book is available on the shelf, you can order it via e-mail by using our e-mail: biblioteket@hig.se
If the book is checked out, you can reserve it yourself in the library catalogue. When it is available, we will notify you via e-mail and you can cancel a request within 24 hours if it is no longer needed. If you don’t cancel your request, we will send the book to you the next day.
Loan period
The loan period is two weeks for course books and four weeks for other items. When we send books to you, you get, on the first loan, 7 extra days as compensation for the postage. Log in to your library account to see which due date applies.
Books should be sent in time so that they have reached us no later than the due date, if you want to avoid overdue fees.
Overdue fees amount to 10 kr per day and item for all course books marked KURS with a yellow sticker. You can check due dates for your borrowed items by logging in to the library catalogue.
Paying late fees
The late fee for course books is 10 kr per book and day, the maximum amount per return and book is 300 kr and 1200 kr per borrower.
If you come to the library during our manned opening hours, you pay the fee by card or Swish.
If you can't come to us, you pay to Högskolan i Gävle's bank account number: 5050 - 5809. As a payment message, enter: 3146-9701-9101-95-99. Send an e-mail to biblioteket@hig.se with your name and a copy of the payment so that we can see that you have paid.
Re-borrowing and reserving books
If your loans are not reserved by someone else, you can renew your loans via our catalogue, using your library account. Log in using your library card number or your personal ID number and PIN-code. You can renew your loans a maximum of ten times. Should you require more time you must contact the library.
Interlibrary loans
Literature unavailable at the university library can be borrowed from other libraries inside or outside of Sweden. Articles are sent home directly but books must be collected from the university library.
In many municipalities the public library offers help with interlibrary loans.
