Distance Learning Students
Here you can find information the rules that apply for distance learning students at the University of Gävle who are based in Sweden but live outside of Gävle municipality. To access the library’s e-books or other electronic resources, log in with your user account. Your library card is only required for borrowing printed books.
Creating a library account
Distance learning students at the University of Gävle living outside Gävle municipality can register online. You can also have books sent to you by post within Sweden.
- Complete the registration form.
- Send an email to biblioteket@hig.se stating your name, that you have completed the registration form.
- We will send you a library card once we have completed your registration.
Books can be sent to your home address
Printed books from our library can be sent to your home if you are a distance learning student at the University of Gävle and live outside of Gävle municipality. We only send books within Sweden.
Returning books
You are responsible for returning books on time. Course books must reach us no later than the due date to avoid late fees. Return postage is at your own expense.

NOTE! Please ensure that our post code is correct. We are unable to collect packages from postal agents, therefore the book needs to be sent directly to us.
Always include your name and address on the package.
Update your contact details when you move
Please remember to update your contact details when you move, as we are not automatically informed of a change of address. You can change your contact details by logging into your library account.
Requesting books
Begin by searching for the book in our library catalogue.
If the book is available on the shelf, you can request it via e-mail: biblioteket@hig.se
If the book is checked out, you can reserve it in the library catalogue. When it becomes available, we will notify you via e-mail. You have 24 hours to cancel the request if you no longer require the book, otherwise it will be posted to you the following day.
Loan period
The loan period is 2 weeks for course books and 4 weeks for general literature. You receive a 7-day extension on the first loan period to compensate for postage time. Log in to your library account to check the due date.
Course books must reach us no later than the due date to avoid late fees. Late fees amount to 10 kr per day and item for all course books marked KURS with a yellow sticker.

Paying late fees
The late fee for course books is 10 kr per book and day, the maximum amount per return and book is 300 kr and 1200 kr per borrower.
If you come to the library during our staffed opening hours, you can pay the fee by card or Swish.
Alternatively, you can make the payment to Högskolan i Gävle's bank account number: 5050-5809. Enter 3146-9701-9101-95-99 as the payment message, then send an e-mail to biblioteket@hig.se with your name and a copy of the payment details as confirmation.
Renewals and reservations
You can log in to your library account to reserve books or renew loans. Books can be renewed up to 10 times, provided they are not reserved by another user. You can use your library card number or personal ID number and pin code to log in to your library account.
Interlibrary loans
If you require a book not found in our catalogue, it is best to contact your nearest public library to request the books via interlibrary loan. We cannot send books from other libraries to you, instead you will have to collect them from us. If you request an article via interlibrary loan, we will send you a copy.
