Your benefits

We care about the well-being of our employees and the importance of life balance. Employees who feel good also want to do a good job. As an employee with us, we want to create good conditions to be able to balance work with leisure and family through, among other things, holiday agreements, wellness benefits, flexitime, the possibility of teleworking and extra supplements for those on parental leave.

Working time

Working hours and their organisation differ between different categories of staff. Teachers have annual working hours, while administrative and technical staff have flexible working hours.

Flexitime

There is a local collective agreement on flexitime for administrative and technical staff. Based on this agreement, employees can, if the organisation allows it, arrange their working hours according to their personal preferences.

Flexible working time includes the two time intervals between which the employee can start and stop work during the day. Flexible working time interval: morning 07.00 - 09.00 and afternoon 15.00 - 18.00. The earliest and latest times at which flexible working time can begin and end during a day.

Fixed time is 09.00 - 15.00 with at least a half-hour lunch between 11.00 - 13.00.

Remote work

At the University of Gävle, work is mainly carried out at the regular workplace on campus. The University of Gävle wants to contribute to increased flexibility for employees by offering technical and administrative staff the opportunity to perform parts of their work (maximum 40%) outside their regular workplace if this is possible based on the needs of the organisation.

Holidays and leave

All employees have the right to rest and recreation for a longer continuous period during the year. As a staff member, you are entitled to holidays from your first year of employment.

  • 28 days of annual leave until your 29th birthday.
  • 31 days of annual leave from the year you reach the age of 30.
  • 35 days of annual leave from the year you reach the age of 40.

Parental allowance supplement

As an employee at the University of Gävle, you are entitled to a parental benefit supplement for a maximum of 360 days per child. The supplement is 10 per cent of the calendar day salary up to the base amount ceiling.

Shortened and non-working days

For certain public holidays, regular working hours are reduced by 2-4 hours. As an employee, you are also entitled to non-working pinch days if the pinch day falls on a non-working Monday-Friday between two non-working days (applies to technical/administrative staff).

Wellness & Health

Good health provides us with the conditions to feel good and function well in both work and private life. The university wants to create opportunities for employees to promote their health by offering a generous and wide range of wellness benefits.

  • Health care allowance
    As an employee (not hourly employees) at the University of Gävle, you have the opportunity to receive a financial contribution to your wellness activities. The wellness grant amounts to SEK 4,000 per year and employee.
  • Gym on Campus
    There is a gym on campus with showers, changing rooms and a sauna for all University staff.
  • Staff association
    The University has an active staff association that organises game nights, owl shooting, golf tournaments, etc. On several occasions during the semester, the staff association invites all staff to lunchtime yoga.
  • Fruit basket
    Every week (except during holidays, etc.) all staff are offered fruit in the form of a fruit basket delivered to the department.
  • Quiet room
    There is a quiet room at the University of Gävle. In this room there is stillness and silence. You can come here to meditate, pray or just to be or take a break from life.
  • Rest rooms
    The University has several rest rooms that can be used by employees for short-term recovery during the working day.
  • Lifestyle test
    We have some internet-based lifestyle tests that employees can take to get information about their health habits and receive personalised advice. And if needed, get concrete tips and tools to support change.
  • Break programme
    All employees can download a computer-based break programme. You decide how often and when to start the programme and what kind of exercises you need, depending on whether you want to soften the muscles in your neck, back or shoulders.
  • Health
    As a staff member, you have the possibility to see a doctor during paid working hours. You can also be reimbursed for medical care, physiotherapy, hospitalisation and prescription drugs.
    For sick leave (between days 15 and 365), employees receive a supplement of ten per cent on income up to ten price base amounts.
    All employees at the University are covered by occupational health care for work-related problems.

Salary exchange

As an employee at the University, you are given the opportunity to exchange salary by, for example, setting aside part of your gross salary each month or the value of saved holiday days for your future pension.

Insurance policies

As an employee at the University of Gävle, you are covered by several different insurances, among others:

  • Occupational injury insurance - covers occupational injury or illness caused by an accident or otherwise caused by work.
  • Personal injury insurance - provides compensation if you are injured at work and it is classified as an occupational injury.
    Business travel insurance - applies to all domestic and international business trips. It is valid for the entire duration of the business trip, including the event. If you are travelling abroad on business, you must always carry a certificate of Kammarkollegiet's business travel insurance.
  • Service group life insurance - provides financial protection in the event of death for the insured person's spouse, registered partner, cohabitant and children. The money is paid as a tax-free lump sum. The insurance is valid as long as you are a government employee.

Social Security Foundation

If you have worked continuously for at least two years and your employment ends, the Social Security Foundation offers help in finding a new job and financial support. Enrolment and possible compensation depend on the length and scope of your employment.

Pensions

Your future pension consists of several parts and comes from several organisations. The Swedish Pensions Agency, which handles the public pension, from the University, and any previous employers, in the form of an occupational pension managed by SPV (Statens tjänstepensionsverk). You may also have private pension savings. The different pensions do not affect each other but are added together to form your total pension.

The retirement age is reached at the end of the month before you turn 65. As an employee, you have the right to remain in employment, by agreement with your employer, until the age of 69.
