Accessibility account for the learning platform Canvas

The University of Gävle strives to ensure that as many as poosible can use our learning platform Canvas. This information describes how the University complies with the Act on the Accessibility of Digital Public Services in its use of the learning platform, outlines possible accessibility issues and gives you information on how you can report problems to us so that we can fix them.

How accessible is the learning platform?

The learning platform Canvas partly complies with the Act on the Accessibility of Digital Public Services (2018:1937). We are aware that certain parts of the learning platform are not fully accessible, primarily certain material and content published on the platform. We are constantly striving to improve accessibility.

What can you do if you are unable to access certain parts of the learning platform?

If you need to access content from Canvas på Högskolan i Gävle but are unable to do so, and this content is not within the scope of accessibility regulations as described below, please notify us via learningcenter@hig.se. During office hours, our response time is usually between 6-8 hours, but you may not receive a response until the following day.

We are constantly striving to improve accessibility in the learning platform. If you discover any problems that are not described on this page, or if you think that we fail to comply with the act, please let us know.

Technical information regarding the accessibility of the learning platform

Our goal is to achieve fundamental accessibility according to the criteria WCAG 2.1 on level AA. As yet, the learning platform does not fully comply with all criteria in WCAG 2.1. For this reason, the learning platform does not comply with all parts of the Act on the Accessibility of Digital Public Services. Parts that do not comply are described below.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Content described below is not fully accessible. Our ambition is to handle all known instances of poor accessibility.

Poor accessibility according to legal requirements can be found in:

• Documents: A few uploaded pdf documents, word files and some other types of files are not accessible in accordance with the guidelines no. 88.
  
• Video: Some published videos lack subtitles or audio description and are therefore not accessible in accordance with the guidelines no. 88.
  

How the learning platform has been tested

The learning platform Canvas contains a tool to test accessibility. Together with our teachers, we have tested this function. We have also read Canvas’ own documentation concerning accessibility in its technologies and interface.

We use this Canvas tool to follow up and handle all instances of poor accessibility in code and with editorial measures on a regular basis.
