Interlibrary loans from other libraries
Material not contained in the library’s collection may be requested from other libraries in Sweden and abroad via interlibrary loan. Read more about interlibrary loans and who can request them.
Who can use the interlibrary loan service?
We can request interlibrary loans for students and employees at the University of Gävle, as well as students from other universities who are registered borrowers at our library. If you do not belong to any of these categories, please contact your nearest public library instead.
What material can I request?
Material required for your studies or research, that are not available in print or electronic form in our library, may be requested via interlibrary loan. Books that are checked out from our library or those that can be found in Gävle public library's catalogue HelGe External link. cannot be requested via interlibrary loan.
Certain materials cannot be requested via interlibrary loan. This includes entire e-books, reference material, course books, journals and, in many cases, theses and degree projects. Fiction can only be requested for research purposes.

How do I request a book?
If you are a registered library user, we recommend that you create an account in Libris, the national catalogue, and then place the request yourself.
You may also send your request with the complete book reference via e-mail to bibfjarr@hig.se
Please note that you must collect your interlibrary loan books at the library. If you are a distance student wanting to request an interlibrary loan but cannot collect them in person, you should request the item through your local public library instead.
How do I request an article?
If you wish to request an article, you should first check our journal list to determine whether it is available in print or electronic form from the library. Once you have confirmed that it is not available, you can request it via the link “Submit an interlibrary loan request to the library” or send the full article reference to us at bibfjarr@hig.se.
How much does it cost?
Interlibrary loans of printed books, photocopies of articles or smaller parts of e-books from libraries within the Nordic countries are free of charge. The fees for loans and photocopies of articles from libraries outside the Nordic region are contained in our price list. We will contact you prior to placing a request outside of the Nordic countries to inform you of the cost.

Interlibrary loans of printed books and photocopies of articles from Swedish and Nordic libraries are free of charge.
Printed books borrowed from libraries outside the Nordic countries
Students: 150 kr per loan.
Employees of the University of Gävle: free of charge.
Article copies from libraries outside the Nordic region
Students: 80 kr per article.
Employees of the University of Gävle: free of charge.
Damaged, lost or non-returned material borrowed from another library is invoiced according to the lending library’s rules.

How long will it take?
Expect the delivery time to be around 7-10 days, however this may vary, so make sure to submit your requests well in advance.
How do I check out interlibrary loans?
You will be notified of the arrival of your interlibrary loan via SMS or e-mail. Books must be collected and returned at the library’s information desk during staffed opening hours. Copies of articles will be posted to you, together with instructions for payment. For university employees, articles will be sent to you via internal mail.
How long can I keep the books?
The loan period is determined by the lending library. You will usually receive a short guaranteed loan period, with an option to keep the book for longer if no one else requests it. If you receive an e-mail with a recall demand, you must return the book immediately.

Lending to other libraries
Publicly funded libraries in the Nordic region can request books and article copies from our collection using Libris interlibrary loan. Book loans and article copies are free.
Publicly funded libraries outside the Nordic region can request books and, if permitted by the journal license, article copies from our collection. Requests can be placed using Libris interlibrary loan or sent via email to biblioteket@hig.se. The price for a book loan is 3 IFLA vouchers, and 1.5 IFLA vouchers for an article.
The replacement fee for a damaged or lost book consists of the price of the book plus 100 kr. Alternatively, a new replacement copy can be purchased and sent to the library.
Are you a researcher or a teacher at the University of Gävle?
Material that you need for your research and which is not available in printed or electronic form in our Library can be requested as interlibrary loans from other libraries in and outside of Sweden.
