About the researcher

Stefan Seipel belongs to the Geospatial Information Science research group and conducts research in visualisation and digital image processing. Stefan Seipel's research is mainly focused on interactive visualizations of geographical and spatial data. The research is conducted with usability and people in focus.

Stefan Seipel's current research includes the following activities:

  • In a research collaboration with, among others, Lantmäteriet and researchers from KTH, it is being studied how specially adapted 3D visualisations can support the management process in real estate formation. The research is conducted as part of the test bed project "Smart planning, construction, management and utilisation processes throughout the life cycle" with support from the national Smart Build Environment External link. initiative.
  • Visual anomaly detection in digital maps is being studied in a research collaboration with researchers from the Cartography & GIS group External link. at Ghent University. The aim of the project is to develop and experimentally evaluate effective visualisations of digital elevation models that help to identify changes on the ground and buildings e.g. as a result of landslides, earthquakes or other events.
  • The Urban 3D Visualisation project focuses on the development of efficient algorithms for modelling and visualization of urban environments. Interactive simulations will be used for scenario modelling and smart urban planning, e.g. based on aspects such as solar energy (Seipel, Lingfors and Widén, 2013 External link.).
