As a new student with us, you are offered activities to familiarise yourself with the University, student life and to get the best possible start to your studies.

Activities for New Students

All activities are listed below in chronological order. The introduction extends over the first weeks of the semester.

Welcome to our introduction day at the University of Gävle! It will be a day full of extra services and different activities around the campus. For example, a welcome ceremony, a campus walk and welcome fair. Many programmes have their programme introduction on this day. We are looking forward to meeting you!

Date, time and location: 20 January, 09.00 at the University of Gävle

This 90-minute session is full of information and handy tips aimed at helping you survive and adjust to living and studying in Sweden. You’ll get a crash course in the Swedish language and practice some useful everyday phrases for making friends, shopping and travelling.
We will also explore some social and cultural aspects of “Swedishness” and give you some practical advice about local customs, habits and traditions. And, of course, there will be fika.

Most of the University's programmes have a programme introduction and roll call in the afternoon of the introduction day on 20 August. Use the link below to find out the date and time of your programme introduction.

This week marks the start of the semester for most of you. The Swedish academic year is divided into two semesters, each lasting 20 weeks. There are no official breaks for Christmas, New Year or Easter but there is usually a lecture-free period during these holidays.

The welcome weeks is your introduction to student life in Gävle. It is a few weeks of fun events at the beginning of the semester organised by the international committee of the student union (IntU Gefle). Participation is voluntary, but it gives you the chance to take part in student life and create memorable experiences. The International Committee will email you with more information.

As a student at the University of Gävle, you have access to a wide range of resources to help you succeed both academically and personally. Our services include counselling, stress management workshops, help to overcome public speaking anxiety, and guidance on study techniques and planning. We also offer health counselling, advice on studying abroad and information on your rights as a student.
