Useful to Know

HiG stands for Högskolan i Gävle, which is Swedish for University of Gävle. The HiG card has two functions. It works as an entrance card to the University and the computer rooms and can be used to print and take copies from our printers. Collect your card at the Reception. You must be registered in Ladok and be able to identify yourself in order to collect the card.

As a student at the University of Gävle, you have the ability to install Microsoft's Office software for free on up to five computers. A wireless network, Eduroam, is available on the University's campus.

In order to borrow and order printed books, you must be registered as a library user. You register by filling in the library's registration form.

If you want to use the University's databases and e-books, your University user account is sufficient - you do not need a library card for these.

There is a lot to think about as a new student. For you, it might mean a whole new life in a whole new country. An important issue for most people is housing and you need to apply for accommodation yourself. It is a good idea to start looking for accommodation as early as possible, and it is a good idea to join a housing queue.

A student ID shows that you are a student at a university and makes you eligible for various student offers.

Your time as a student is not all about studying but also about getting to know new people and have a good time. Take the chance to meet new and old students by taking part in the activities offered by the Gefle Student Union and the Student organisations!
