This week marks the start of the semester for most of you. The Swedish academic year is divided into two semesters, each lasting 20 weeks. There are no official breaks for Christmas, New Year or Easter but there is usually a lecture-free period during these holidays.

The autumn term 2026 starts on Monday, 31 August.

The welcome weeks is your introduction to student life in Gävle. It is a few weeks of fun events at the beginning of the semester organised by the international committee of the student union (IntU Gefle). Participation is voluntary, but it gives you the chance to take part in student life and create memorable experiences. The International Committee will email you with more information.
