Katrin Lättman
Senior lecturer, docent
About the researcher
Katrin Lättman does research on experiences and perceptions of sustainable daily travel, such as commuting. Her research primarily focuses on psychological aspects of sustainable travel and dimensions of justice and equity, and includes studies on different travel modes and groups of individuals (including commuters and vulnerable groups). She also explores the meaning of psychosocial factors for different experiences and behaviors and the relationship between travel experiences and health.
The research has so far resulted in the development of two measurement scales, intended for practical as well as scientific use. The first, the Perceived Accessibility Scale (PAC), evaluates perceived accessibility in day to day travel with different (combinations of) transport modes, and has been extensively used in research and practice on a national and international level. The second, the Short Perceived Walkability Scale (SPWS), assesses perceptions of walkability for different walking purposes and was developed in collaboration with researchers from the UK and Germany.
Current research
Project: Share4Equity
An EU-consortium project that focuses on distributive, epistemic and procedural justice dimensions of shared and active mobility. The project is a collaboration between researchers and private and public organizations in Germany, Canada, Italy, Poland and Sweden. The Swedish part of the project is conducted in close collaboration with Region Uppsala and focuses on experiences and perceptions of justice and accessibility with different types of shared and active mobility services. The project runs between 2025–2027 and is financed by the Swedish Energy Agency.
Project: WalkUrban
Project: WalkUrban. An EU-project focusing on urban walkability and different methods for evaluating walkability. The project was financed by the Swedish Energy Agency, Vinnova and Formas between 2021–2024, but collaborations are still active in analyses and dissemination activities.
