About the researcher
Eleonor Kristoffersson has served as guest professor, professor, and visiting researcher at the University of Gävle since 2013. She earned her doctoral degree in commercial law at Jönköping International Business School in 2001. In 2003, she was appointed Associate Professor (Docent) at Uppsala University, where she also became a full professor in 2009. She was appointed professor at Örebro University in 2010.
Her academic career is rooted in tax law, with a particular focus on value-added tax (VAT) and various procedural issues. She is an internationally recognized scholar in the field and has participated in several interdisciplinary and cross-border research projects. Her research is characterized by a strong societal commitment and a desire to contribute to legally sound and efficient tax systems.
Since becoming a professor, she has broadened her research both within and beyond the field of law. Her current research areas include:
Law, Digital Technologies, and AI
She is involved in several research projects focusing on AI, including:
- AI to alleviate loneliness among older adults
- AI and financial ecosystems
- AI and private regulation
- AI and money laundering
Ageing Research
Between 2017 and 2024, she served as Director of Studies for the doctoral schools Successful Ageing and Newbreed in ageing research, with responsibility for 34 PhD candidates. She now leads Global Challenges Team 1 (GCT1) on health and ageing within the framework of Mirai – a collaboration between seven Japanese and ten Swedish universities.
Crisis and Societal Transformation
Eleonor Kristoffersson leads Örebro University's profile area Crisis and Societal Transformation, which takes a holistic approach to crises. She is also involved in research projects on violence.
Her teaching primarily focuses on tax law, business law, and legal research methods, but she is also engaged in courses addressing the role of law in digitalization and societal transformation. She supervises doctoral and master’s students and has a particular interest in integrating research and teaching in interdisciplinary contexts.
