About the researcher
Åsa Hedlund received her PhD in 2024 and works as a senior lecturer at the Division of Nursing Science. Her areas of interest include neurodiversity in relation to health, scientific methodology, existential questions, and psychology. Åsa is originally a trained district nurse.
Åsa's research primarily focuses on neurodiversity in relation to health, healthcare, and working life. She is the project manager for a study investigating the work experiences of neurodivergent employees in healthcare professions. Åsa also leads a project examining the needs of autistic patients within somatic healthcare. Furthermore, she is involved in the four-year project A Good Autistic Life, funded by the Swedish Research Council and conducted in collaboration with Karlstad University and the Karolinska Institute. Åsa supervises doctoral students in the field of neurodiversity and working life and has developed the independent course "Autism and ADHD in Adults: Health in Everyday Life and at Work." She is also the author or co-author of several textbooks on neuro-affirmative perspectives.
