Writing references

It is important to properly reference other people's texts that you use in your own work. The Library's website provides information on different referencing styles and how to properly reference different materials.

The importance of correct referencing

The academic approach includes showing that you know the research that has been done in the field of knowledge. In scientific texts, you as a writer often refer to or quote from the scientific work of others. If you do not use referencing techniques and citations when you write about something you have read or heard in a correct way, you have not followed the rules of academic writing and may be accused of plagiarism. You can find more information on referencing at the library.

Different referencing styles

There are many different reference styles, such as APA 7 and Harvard. It is common that your teacher has chosen which reference style you should use in your work. On the Library's website you can find guides and tutorials to different referencing styles.

Reference management systems

When using reference management systems, you can import references from databases, insert references into documents and prepare a list of references for your essay or report.

At the Library we offer support using Zotero and Mendeley.
