Travel instructions

At present there are over 150 non-stop destinations to Stockholm/Arlanda International Airport within Europe and trains depart to Gävle every hour from right below the Sky City terminal.

Arlanda is only 60 minutes away from Gävle by train. Well upon arrival in Gävle, you can reach just about anything by foot, by bike, bus or taxi. The hotels as well as The University of Gävle are all centrally located and within walking distance. There are also local transportation and buses available for those who prefer.

Tickets and train schedules you will find on this page: sj.se/en Länk till annan webbplats.

A convenient way of travelling longer distances in Europe is via a night train service, and a staple way to get to Stockholm is using the EuroNight train Berlin-Hamburg-Stockholm (16h/12h trip, sleeping berths or sleeping cabins available). Also using this Night Train to return from Sweden to Germany. Several connecting direct trains are then available from Stockholm to Gävle (1,5 h trip).

Our suggestion is, where possible, to find connecting trains to Berlin Hbf or Hamburg Hbf, allowing for at least one hour between connecting trains. Suggested routes found below (all, except trips to Oradea, tested and tried successfully by University of Gävle staff travelling for EU GREEN).

Magdeburg: Magdeburg – Berlin, several direct daily train services, c.a 2h trip.
Wroclaw: Wroclaw – Berlin, several direct daily train services, c.a 4h trip.
Angers: Angers – Paris – Karlsruhe/Cologne – Hamburg, several daily train services, c.a 8h trip.
Parma: Parma – Milano – Basel – Hamburg, some daily train services, c.a 14h trip.
Oradea/Extremadura/Evora: Possible by first connecting with national train services and night train service (to Paris/Berlin).
ATU: Possible by first using ferry Dublin-Holyhead, train Holyhead-London-Brussels-Hamburg (using Eurotunnel under channel)

There are several hotels in Gävle in various price ranges. You can find information about accommodation in Gävle on the Visit Gävle website. There you can also find other useful information for visitors to Gävle.
