Förberedelse inför din programstart
Det ges möjlighet för dig som blivande basårsstudent att på plats fräscha upp dina matematikkunskaper innan programstart. Oavsett när du läst matematik senast är det bra med repetition. Du ges då möjlighet att gå en förberedelsekurs i matematik tillsammans med andra nya studenter.

I kursen repeteras många delar av matematik 1 och 2. Kursen ges på plats och startar preliminärt tisdag 19/8, se länken nedan.

För att vara så väl förberedd som möjligt så bör du oavsett repetera dina ämneskunskaper. Särskilt viktigt är det i ämnet matematik. Du bör ha Matematik 2 aktuell och vara väl bekant med potenser, logaritmer, räta linjens ekvation, ekvationssystem, kvadrerings- och konjugatregler.
Första kapitlet i kurslitteraturen för Basmatematik 3c innehåller uppgifter som är bra att repetera innan kursstart. Vi kommer första veckan uteslutande att repetera gymnasiekurserna (1c, 2c med algebra, trigonometri mm), vilket är mycket viktigt för fortsättningen av kursen.

Programme information from your Faculty Programme Director

The Master program in Religious Studies is a distance-based educational program that offers the possibility to obtain a Master of Religious Studies entirely off-campus. The official language throughout the studies is English. There are no restrictions related to geographical location. All courses can be followed online. The lectures will be available online on a web-based learning management system Canvas for watching at any time.

At the University of Gävle you have the unique possibility to study Religious Studies at the master’s level. Here, we study the interaction between individual, society and culture during different historical epochs. The influence of religion on current politics, the relationship between aesthetics/art and religion, the relationship between mentality and forms of organisation, as well as different forms of action strategies for a sustainable society, are all issues in focus. The Master Programme in Religious Studies includes four specialisations, you choose one of these during the second semester: Ethics and leadership; Religion in post-secular society; Environment, health and working life; Religion and folklore in the past and in the present.

A great majority of the world’s population say that they are followers of different religious traditions. At the same time, religion is heatedly debated in media. The picture is complex and demands specific tools to avoid simplified assumptions: How can we understand the development of terror organisations like the Islamic State, compared to the parallel growth of Muslim feminism and the struggle for civil rights in the Middle East? How about Syria, is Syria the last secular state in the middle of the growing conservative Islam? How about the scientific worldview, does it really offer an alternative to religious world-views? What kind of leadership does the world need today? The spiritual leadership, what is it? How about the burn-out phenomenon, what is its genesis and how to cope with it? How do the indigenous African religious traditions see on the human/nature interaction?

As a student in the master programme, you will be offered the opportunity to pose the above-like questions and learn more about diverse religious phenomena. We explore a variety of religions like Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, as well as expressions of “New Age” like Spiritism and shamanism. The religious ways of living are all expressed in a multitude of ways, for example as beliefs, rituals, codes concerning food and dressing, politics, gender roles, and different art genres. The master programme studies these phenomena from historical, contemporary, behavioural and existential perspectives. All are used to understand the interaction between individual, society and culture in today’s local/global world. The diminishing influence of traditional religion in different contexts and religious change are also studied. In addition, we also ask the question if there is a difference between what we call religion and spirituality, and if they are related.

In order to make your studies successful, it is necessary that you recapitulate Mathematics and Electronics from your B.Sc. If you have the possibility to rehearse MatLab skills before the program starts, it will support your success.

Another good idea is to start your hard work from day one and continue the same way throughout the courses. To study at advanced level in Electronics is quite tough – in return you get a prosperous future career.

Two courses, each 7,5 cr, are given in the autumn semester for half-time studies – one after the other. During the first half of the autumn semester you will study Statistical Signal Processing, and the second half of the autumn semester you will study Multivariable and Nonlinear Control Systems.

The programme introduction will be a good opportunity to meet and greet some of the faculty members involved in the programme courses and ask questions about the programme. Programme information from your Faculty Programme Director

The program is a educational program that offers the possibility to obtain a Master of Science in Energy Systems 60 credits from University in Gävle. A strong emphasis is placed on dealing with energy engineering tasks with due consideration of technical, environmental and socioeconomic issues. Advanced optimization and simulation as well as measurement techniques are applied to identify, describe, quantify and find solutions to a diverse range of energy engineering problems. The major provide proficiency in project design and implementation, operation and maintenance, as well as in crucial phases of policy generation.

This study major has a total duration of nine months taught courses (60 credits) including a thesis project work (15 credits). The programme is open to applicants from all over the world. The programme language is English.

Welcome to the Master in Sustainability Science - Environment and Decision Making at the University of Gävle!

Waiting to meet you all at the end of the summer, I wish to give you here a brief reminder of some key details about the university study and the Master programme.

To study by distance

The Master in Sustainability Science – Environment and Decision Making is a full time (100%) online distance programme. This means that you can study in this Master programme wherever you are if you have access to a suitable internet connection. This may suggest that you can, to some extent, enjoy a high level of flexibility and freedom throughout your studies. However, studying by distance in this programme does not mean that you can decide your study schedule fully by yourself. Each course in this programme requires active engagement and attendance in several real-time online sessions and group tasks. Several courses may also require for you to schedule and attend to real-time online meetings with your classmates to carry out group activities for assignments and exams.

The schedule of each course will be available on the platform Kronox four weeks before the course starts. Instructions and details of each course will be provided through the learning platform Canvas.

Program structure

The two-year Master programme comprises 120 higher education credits and leads to the master’s degree in Sustainability Science. It means that one semester of full-time studies corresponds to 30 credits. The programme is arranged in a way that you will sequentially read full time courses of 7.5 credits throughout the entire programme, with a few exceptions, most notably the master's thesis, which comprises 30 credits and runs the last semester of the programme.

The first semester of the programme starts on the 2nd of September 2024 (week 36). In this semester you will study the following courses:

The Energy Online program is a distance-based educational program that offers the possibility to obtain a Master of Science in Energy Systems entirely off-campus.

A strong emphasis is placed on dealing with energy engineering tasks with due consideration of technical, environmental and socioeconomic issues. Advanced optimization and simulation as well as measurement techniques are applied to identify, describe, quantify and find solutions to a diverse range of energy engineering problems. The major provide proficiency in project design and implementation, operation and maintenance, as well as in crucial phases of policy generation.

This study major has a total duration of nine months taught courses (60 credits) including a thesis project work (15 credits). The programme is open to applicants from all over the world.

The official language throughout the studies is English.

There are no restrictions related to geographical location. All courses can be followed online. The lectures will be available online on a web-based learning management system for watching at any time.

However, some courses include seminars or project presentations as part of the examination process, which require students to be present and visible online and speak in front of others

Programme information from your Faculty Programme Director

he Master Programme in Electronics/Automation (120 credits) offers the possibility to obtain an MSc degree with a major in Electronics, specialising in Automation from University of Gävle. The programme is taught entirely in English and is open to applicants from around the world.

The MScEE/Automation programme is interdisciplinary, combining radio frequency measurements and wireless sensor networks with signal processing, advanced control systems, robotics and machine vision.

The extent of the programme is two years, consisting of four semesters. During the first three semesters, you will study four courses each semester - two courses at a time for 10 weeks. In the fourth and final semester, you write your master's thesis. Below you find links to the syllabi of the courses taken in the first semester.

However, some courses have occasions such as seminars or project presentations as an examination moment where the student needs to be visibly and orally present online..

A strong emphasis is placed on dealing with energy engineering tasks with due consideration of technical, environmental and socioeconomic issues. The two-year Master Programme in Energy Systems offers further in-depth studies of energy systems in buildings are geared towards simulation, optimisation and measuring techniques of and in buildings.

You will learn a multi-dimensional approach, which means that the building is evaluated from different point of views as well as with different system boundaries. As evaluation methods, advanced measurements technique, energy simulation, computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation, psychological and cognitive functioning, intervention methods as well as life-cycle assessment (LCA) for quantification of the environmental impacts will be covered. This unique programme will focus not only on system and component levels but also on all aspects from technology to human response and environmental impacts.

Programmets upplägg - studieortsbaserad distansutbildning med campusförlagda träffar
Socionomprogrammet vid Högskolan i Gävle är inte en helt nätbaserad distansutbildning. Programmet är istället organiserat som studieortsbaserad distansutbildning, och du ingår i en studiegrupp vid lärcentra på den studieort där du antas. Utbildningen bedrivs på helfart och du förväntas 1 – 2 gånger i veckan delta i studiegruppens arbete på studieortens lärcenter. Arbetet i din grupp på studieorten kan innebära föreläsningar via webbkonferens, obligatoriska grupparbeten, lärarledd handledning, seminarier m.m. För att lyckas med studierna är det enligt vår erfarenhet viktigt med arbetet i studiegruppen. Dessutom ingår det seminarier, examinationer och annan undervisning som förläggs till campus i Gävle upp till fem tillfällen per termin. Ett sådant tillfälle kan vara under en dag eller några dagar i följd och de utgör ofta obligatoriska moment i utbildningen.
